Default Kernel For Tape - "No Data Found"

So, I'm using the latest Kernel TAPE Demo on an Ultrium 960 tape drive (LTO3 Tape Format). It detects the Tape Drive fine, but once I try to image the tape, it doesn't even access the drive and just fails. Tried on Windows XP, Vista, and Win7 OSes. Two different LTO3 model tape drives, same issue each time.

I click "Create Image", it sees the tape drive, I select the path for the image file, another screen flashes for a split-second, then it just says "No Data Found" on the Explorer window that's supposed to show Filenames and Type. There wasn't even a quick tape scan or catalog attempt. When I try to click on "Create Image" again, the tape drive is no longer detected. Restarting the app shows the drive again.

Any suggestions? Been trying for weeks now trying to find Tape Recovery software that actually works before I purchase it.

Hi,

As per the issue it seems that tape media is damaged. Please try to create the image of a working media and see the results.

I had already run the tapes through HP's L&TT Media Test Assessment, they all came back 100% successful. Tried multiple known-good tapes (that I read from many times) and brand new tapes (different brands), same problem.

When I go through the Create Image steps, it doesn't even rewind the tape or try to access the tape.. just says "No Data Found" without doing anything. Does the software require an older operating system? SCSI/ASPI Driver dependent?

I am having the precise same issue - with the same tape unit from HP. I have recovered data from a VXA tape installed in the same machine usign the same install of the software with no problems, however I have had no joy whatsoever with the LTO drive. Any help at all would be good.

On another note - BackUp Exec reports that there is data on the tape - but the recovery software does not.

I have tried disabling drivers - uninstalling drivers, going to old versions of drivers.

I dod find that the only way the tape recovery software would see the drive in the first place was to disable all of the Backup Exec Services first.

Any more clues here? Happy to part with my bucks and buy the software, but would love to see it get something from a tape first.

I have now purchased the software and the purchased version does exactly the same thing!
